Politically exposed persons

Under Estonian law (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Act §10), the holders of the following offices are politically exposed persons. Nimistu syncs daily from the Riigikogu API, the European Parliament XML feed, Wikidata, valitsus.ee, Wikipedia and the Estonian Business Register.

Politically exposed persons

(1) The following office-holders in the Republic of Estonia are deemed politically exposed persons:

  1. the President of the Republic;
  2. the Prime Minister;
  3. any minister;
  4. any member of the Riigikogu;
  5. members of the board of a political party;
  6. the State Secretary;
  7. the secretary general of a ministry;
  8. the Auditor General;
  9. the Chancellor of Justice;
  10. justices of the Supreme Court;
  11. the Prosecutor General;
  12. the chair and members of the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank, plus the Governor and Deputy Governors;
  13. ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary, envoys and chargés d’affaires;
  14. the Commander of the Defence Forces;
  15. the Commander of the Defence League;
  16. members of the supervisory board and management board of a company under the controlling influence of the state;
  17. members of the supervisory and management boards of the North Estonia Medical Centre Foundation, the Tartu University Hospital Foundation, the Enterprise and Innovation Foundation, the Rural Development Foundation, the Environmental Investment Centre Foundation, and the State Forest Management Centre;
  18. the mayors of Tallinn, Tartu, Narva, Pärnu and Kohtla-Järve, and the head of Saaremaa parish council;
  19. the directors general of: the Education and Youth Board, the Internal Security Service, the Defence Resources Agency, the Language Board, the Environmental Board, the Competition Authority, the Land Board, the Tax and Customs Board, the National Heritage Board, the Patent Office, the Police and Border Guard Board, the Agriculture and Food Board, the Agricultural Registers and Information Board, the Rescue Board, the State Agency of Medicines, the Information System Authority, the Social Insurance Board, Statistics Estonia, the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority, the Health Board, the Transport Administration, and the Foreign Intelligence Service;
  20. the directors general of the Data Protection Inspectorate and the Labour Inspectorate;
  21. the directors general of the State Shared Service Centre and the Emergency Response Centre, and the State Archivist;
  22. members of the supervisory board and management board of the Financial Supervision Authority;
  23. the Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit.

(2) Heads of the following accredited international organisations located in Estonia are also politically exposed persons:

  1. the Baltic Defence College;
  2. the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence;
  3. [repealed — RT I, 26.05.2022, 2 — in force 29.05.2022]
  4. the NATO Force Integration Unit.
